Premier League: Why we lost to Manchester United – Leicester City coach, Claude Puel

Leicester City manager, Claude Puel has explained why his side were defeated 2-1 by Manchester United in their Premier League opener on Friday.

Jamie Vardy’s late strike was not enough to cancel Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw’s early minutes’ goals for the Red Devils.

Puel, however, admitted that his players struggled for energy in the second half of the encounter, adding that his side deserved to draw the game against United.

“It was a good game, a good performance from my team,” Puel told BBC Sport.

“Certainly we lacked more energy in the second half. That’s normal for the first game.

“We conceded an early goal, it was harsh. It was not a good result but it’s a good performance. We gave our best, it was a difficult team against a great team. We deserved a different result.

“We showed good control, good football, a lot of chances. We had chances to score in the first half. It was more difficult in the second half without the energy. I am happy with the squad and the transfer window. We need to continue and build some good momentum. We deserved a minimum of a draw.”

Puel’s men would return to action when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers next week Saturday.
